An average person spends around 21 years of their whole life looking at screens! That is beyond crazy to even just think about.
When you consider how much of our precious time is spent absorbed in a blue light glow, it’s no wonder so many of us go to bed feeling mentally exhausted yet restless. We spend our days consuming endless streams of information, opinions, and noise. If we don’t intentionally create space to unplug before sleep, our minds never actually get the chance to process the day and rest.
Creating an evening sanctuary isn't about throwing your phone away or living off the grid, it's simply about choosing you over the scroll for the last hour of your day. It’s about building a peaceful bridge between the busyness of life and the restorative quiet of night.
Here are a few gentle ways to disconnect from your devices and protect your evening sanctuary:
Establish a "Screen Curfew": Pick a time, whether it’s 8:00 PM or an hour before your head hits the pillow, to put your phone to bed. Plug it in across the room (or in another space entirely) so you aren't tempted to reach for it during the night.
Swap the Blue Light for Soft Glow: Bright overhead light and glowing screens signal to your brain that it’s still midday. Switch to warm lamps, light a gentle candle, or let the natural twilight fill your space as you wind down.
Trade the Scroll for a Analog Ritual: Replace mindlessly refreshing apps with a sensory, offline habit that brings you joy. Keep a book on your nightstand, sip a hot cup of chamomile tea, write down a few thoughts in a journal, or do a light stretch on the rug.
Create a Landing Spot for Tomorrow: One reason we scroll at night is to escape anxiety about the next day. Take five minutes to jot down tomorrow's to-do list, lay out your clothes, or tidy your bedside table. Closing those mental tabs allows your mind to finally settle.
Your home should be the place where the noise of the world quietens. When you guard the final hour of your day, you aren't just putting down a phone, you are giving yourself the gift of presence, deep rest, and a peaceful mind.
Tonight, let the screens go dark, step into your sanctuary, and give your soul the quiet it’s been waiting for all day.
Sincerely,
Luvéara
